Our practice is active in promoting cancer screening as we believe that screening saves lives.

Bowel Cancer Screening

The bowel cancer screening programme invites all men and women between the ages of 60 - 74 years who are registered with a General Practice. Those aged 75 and over can request a kit by ringing 0800-707-6060.

People are invited by letter to their home address every 2 years, and are asked to complete a stool sample kit by providing 6 samples (from 3 stools) and posting it back to the national programme for analysis in a sealed envelope. They receive their result by letter free post and their GP is informed.

Watch this short video which explains how to do your sample.

If you need any help or advice, please contact the surgery and we will be happy to explain the process.

Cervical Cancer Screening

Women between the ages of 25 - 49 are invited for a smear test every 3 years, and every 5 years from the age of 50 - 64. Smear tests are done at the GP surgery by the practice nurse. The best time to have a smear test is mid-cycle, i.e. if you have a 28 day cycle, around the 14th days is best (day 1 is the first day of your period).
